Sideboard Styling

I love the look of a well-styled sideboard, preferably one with a bar and decanters on top. To me, the crucial element is the lighting. If you don’t have a dimmer on your main fixture, your sideboard lamp(s) will be your best friend.

If you opt for a single lamp, make sure you create balance with something of height on the other side. Here’s a great example from Green Street.

A to die for sideboard moment complete with bar, greenery, and tortoise lamp  …

I love the moody elegance of Small Shop Studio’s sideboard area. It’s not exactly my style, but the design is so alluring. In other words, they nailed it! The matching la fiorentina pillows create just the right balance.

Even though this is a living room solution, there is no reason you can’t transition the look into the dining room. BHG used double consoles to fill a long wall and created that ever-important balance with identical lamps.

I am basically obsessed with this console styled by Jamie Meares. She makes Chinoiserie fun and uber-colorful.

Let this shot be a shining example of what not to do because everything is the same height and completely cluttered. Yes, it’s mine. Let’s consider this the before picture.

In my dreams I place a Sally King Benedict painting in the middle.

Ta-dah. Lighting and balance. All is right with the world. Of course, these are stand-in lamps until I find the lamp of my dreams, but, hey, Target did alright.

Ahh — tthe timing of this post is PERFECT! My new sideboard for the dining room just arrived and now I have some serious styling inspiration for it. I think the first one is my favorite, but the Shannon Darrough sideboard is a close second :)

I love a good side table too. I adore the tortoise lamp in the second photo and the third photo is perfection! Your little pop of blue/white and the flamingo print are nice touches :)
