Valentine’s dance raising funds for medical equipment at Sacred Heart health centre

Funds for purchasing patient-care equipment for Sacred Heart Community Health Centre in McLennan are being raised with a Valentine’s dance.
Sacred Heart Ladies Auxiliary is hosting the Valentine’s Day Dine and Dance set for Feb. 16 at Girouxville Community Hall. Cocktails will be served at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Dancing with DJ Kevin Sliger starts at 8:30 p.m.
“I hope people come out and support us,” said Leanne Aubin, auxiliary president. “We’ve had great support over the years and the more funds we raise, the more and better equipment we can buy to provide better patient care and comfort.”
This is the major annual fundraiser for the auxiliary, which currently has between 12 to 15 volunteer members.
“We expect to raise $2,000 to $3,000 at this event,” said Aubin.
No specific equipment and cost has been determined, she said.
“It all depends what is needed and how much we raise,” said Aubin.
On average, the auxiliary raises and spends about $8,000 to $10,000 annually, she said. Besides the annual major fundraiser, the auxiliary nets between $500 and $1,000 monthly from the snack and food vending machines, and other profits from the gift shop.
Since she has served on the auxiliary for nine years, over $50,000 has been raised and expended on various medical equipment.
Along with fundraising, auxiliary members volunteer twice-weekly in the hospital.
During the Valentine’s dance, major prizes of $1,000 and $500 will be drawn. Throughout the evening, numerous other donated prizes will be given away; with the winners required to be present to claim their prizes, said Aubin.
Tickets for the event are $25 per couple and are available from any auxiliary member or from Aubin.
A free bus provided by the auxiliary will be available for transportation to and from out-of-town, with pick-ups in McLennan at Simards’ Snack Shack at 5 p.m., in Donnelly at Merciers’ Corner at 5:15 p.m., and at Falher IGA parking lot at 5:30 p.m.
